MINI to Dakar with John Cooper Works Rally and John Cooper Works Buggy

MINI will "go wild" at the Dakar Rally

Another month and a half and it will be time for the jubilee 40th Dakar. MINI and the German team X-Raid have joined forces once again to collaborate on the longest and most demanding endurance race. Both companies have once again produced stunning examples of cars, and for the first time since their debut at the Dakar, they will be competing with two different cars.

After four wins between 2012 and 2015 and three top 10 finishes in 2017, will MINI-'s flagship this time is also the car John Cooper Works Rally. It drives him 3 liter 6 cylinder diesel engine with 340 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. It is actually a car from 2017, which was additionally adapted to the chassis, suspension and sent on a weight loss diet.

It is even more interesting than a familiar car brand new John Cooper Works Buggy. It uses the same engine as its older brother, but its transmission is done only on rear wheel pair. The decision for this solution lies in the rules Dakar Rally, which give rear-wheel drive cars a certain advantage. The buggy has a special tubular steel frame that is covered with carbon fiber reinforced plastic and Kevlar. The body was designed by MINI's design studio with a large with emphasis on aerodynamics.

MINI and X-Raid will have at this year's Dakar Rally 7 vehicles. It will start in LimeJanuary 6, 2018. There are quite a few famous names among the contestants, such as, for example WRC-star Mikko Hirvonen and motorcyclist and racer Nani Roma.
