As an official partner of the Olympic Games in Sochi, Volkswagen took its role very seriously. More than 3,000 Volkswagen, Audi and Škoda vehicles contributed, but what stands out the most is the monstrous Polar Expedition Amarok, which was designed a year ago to promote the event even in the most remote regions of Russia.
Three off-road vehicles Volkswagen Polar Expedition Amarok set out on a 16,000-kilometer expedition from Moscow to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on the Kamchatka Peninsula. Vehicles equipped with a diesel 2.0 engine completed the journey flawlessly, as Volkswagen's goal was primarily reliability and not speed. During the 66-day journey, the team kept supplies inside the vehicle, which was also equipped with a cage, massive tires and suspension for extreme conditions. With an exciting journey, the nine-member team also entered the Guinness Book of Records namely as the longest off-road drive through one country.
Of course, such a cool vehicle as the monstrous Amarok will not be available for free sale. However, Volkswagen offered a special version of the vehicle called Amarok Sochi Edition with additional exterior chrome trim, 18-inch wheels, navigation and an updated interior. With such a vehicle, we would definitely have fewer problems in the case of real Siberian ice storms, which we recently experienced in Slovenia.
