The film Sully is based on true events, as it tells the story of the drama that unfolded with a plane that had a close encounter with two flocks of Canada geese and had to make an emergency landing on the Hudson River due to engine failure. The event that produced two unlikely heroes, pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and co-pilot Jeffrey Skiles, was given the poetic title 'Miracle on the Hudson River' and as such was crying out for a Hollywood adaptation. Tom Hanks stepped into the shoes of the heroic pilot whose life was turned 180 degrees by this event, and Clint Eastwood was behind the camera.

Tom Hanks, who plays in the film pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, is already used to such heroic roles. Just a cursory glance at his filmography reveals this. Saving Private Ryan, Bridge of Spies, Cloud Atlas, Forrest Gump, ... another seasoned Hollywood actor who has been impressing especially as a director has signed on to direct. Clint Eastwood, whose film career spans more than 60 years (since 1955) and consequently has one of the longest tenures in Hollywood. The script for his latest cinematic product is based in part on Sully's book "Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters", which he wrote Todd Komarnicki.
