Darkest Hour (2017)


The newly minted Prime Minister of Britain, Winston Churchill, opposes peace negotiations with Nazi Germany and demands that the occupier must not make concessions. He confronts the rest of the government, which was seriously considering negotiating a peace treaty (Hitler had already conquered half of Europe by June 1940), that Britain will fight for its ideals and the freedom of the nation. The film won the Golden Globe for Best Actor (Gary Oldman).

The story follows the young 16-year-old John Paul Getty III, who has been kidnapped, and his mother Gail tries to convince his grandfather, the billionaire Getty and at the same time the richest man in the world, to pay the ransom. When old Getty refuses, the captors turn violent. In a race between life and death, the question is whether the love of the grandchild or the love of money will win. The film was nominated for 3 Golden Globes.
