Scottish artist Andy Scott's monumental sculptures of horse heads juxtapose the modern with the traditional.
After seven years of construction is Andy Scott's monumental project nearing completion. Over the canal Forth and Clyde in Falkirk majestically mount two thirty-meter sculptures of horse heads made of structural stainless steel, a perfect display of the union of contemporary art with local mythology.
Celtic mythological creatures Kelpies were giant white horses with dripping manes and skin as smooth as steel and cold as death. They had the strength of 10 horses and the ability to transform into a beautiful woman who lured men into a trap. With these qualities, they were a modern day for Scottish water. But the sculptures, with their location, are also a symbol of the draft horse of Scottish industry and economy, which shaped Falkirk's appearance with perseverance and tenacity.
The sculptures will be perfect April 2014.
