Bugonia trailer: Emma Stone in a role that will surprise you – a sci-fi comedy set in 2025 that will stir up all the theories

The final trailer for director Yorgos Lanthimos' visionary satire is here – and it won't leave you cold (unless you're an alien)

What happens when two completely opposite forces meet in a stuffy basement? One of them is played by Emma Stone, the other may be led by entities from another galaxy. The film Bugonia is the latest masterpiece from director Yorgos Lanthimos, who with each film stretches the boundaries of reality again - this time with a sci-fi comedy where conspiracy theories don't end on Reddit, but on the big screen. And yes, things go way too far.

In a visually bold and psychologically charged Bugonias, which according to the script Will Tracy (The Menu, Succession) directed by Lanthimos, follows two conspiracy theorists who are convinced that the powerful CEO of a global corporation is not really human – but an extraterrestrial being with a sinister plan for Earth. In order to save the planet, they do what any reasonable Twitter user would call “a little over the edge.” They kidnap her.

Bugonia – a space invasion? Or just an invasion of one's own paranoia?

In a basement surrounded by tinfoil and doubt, a psychedelic psychological showdown between the human and… something much less predictable quickly unfolds. Emma Stone shines as Director Michelle with an ominous calm that gets under your skin. Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis, as the “basement warriors,” cross the line between the funny and the deeply uncomfortable. The film, which begins as a joke, ends as an allegory – about society, truth, and how much we wish someone would another was responsible for the destruction of the world.

Eloquent irony, Lanthimos' recognizable aesthetic signature, and brilliant play with form make Bugonio for a true cinematic adventure. While the world burns (literally and metaphorically), Lanthimos once again plays with the idea that human logic – if it even exists – is the greatest comedy of all. A film in the spirit Dogtooth, with luxury The Favourite and wild energy Poor Things, with its own, cosmic character.

A cast that takes us over the edge (of reality)

  • Emma Stone – icy, brilliant, unearthly good
  • Jesse Plemons – paranoid, vulnerable, wonderfully confused
  • Aidan Delbis – new energy with a tendency towards existential breakdowns
  • Stavros Halkias – unexpected heartbeat in chaos
  • Alicia Silverstone – a corporate force that may know too much

Why is Bugonia a movie we'll be talking about for years to come?

Because it's more than a film – it's a mirror. Dark, slightly distorted, and with factory-set reality filters. Bugonia is not just a sci-fi comedy, it is an experiment in storytelling, a tense theatrical play caught in a cinematic orgy of doubt. It is an intelligent commentary on our obsession with “truth” in a time when everyone is searching for their own.

The production is also signed by Ari Aster, Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos – and that's enough reason to entice you to the cinema. But if you're looking for one last excuse: Bugonia is a film that will make you laugh, awaken anxiety... and maybe leave you finally stopping trusting the printer in your office.
