Similar to their Bavarian competitors, Mercedes is diligently developing "green" cars. Recently, in their factory on American soil, they started mass production of the ML 450 Hybrid SUV, which is powered by an Atkinson V6 3.5-liter gasoline engine with 205 kW and two electric motors, which is why we are talking about two-mode fashion) hybrid; its final power is 250 kW. The heart of the new hybrid drive is a transmission unit with two electric motors, three planetary gearboxes and four clutches, which allows the power to be divided into electrical and mechanical paths, making the electric motor useful even at higher loads, e.g. on highways and not only in city traffic. The operation of this complex drive system is controlled by a high-speed computer, which continuously adapts the system's operation to road conditions. Thus, the hybrid ML always drives only "on electricity". The exception is a firm press on the gas pedal, when the system additionally activates the gasoline engine. Also maneuvering, e.g. when parking, it runs "on electricity". During highway cruising, the system switches to the gasoline engine. The driver can monitor the operation of the system on the information screen. Despite the hybrid technology, the car still offers the same Mercedes comfort and dynamics as the "regular" ML.
