Why does lipstick often rub off after just a few minutes? Long-lasting lipstick is not an illusion, but a reality!
Is long-lasting lipstick just a promise...or is there a trick to make your lip color last for hours? Many products come with promises of longevity on their packaging, but the reality is often different. A meal, a cup of coffee, or a few hours of talking – and the color is gone. Often, only the edge of the lipstick remains around the lips, while the middle disappears completely.
According to makeup artist Alexa Persico, there are three main reasons for this: natural oils, dehydration and uneven skin texture on the lips. All of this prevents the lipstick from applying evenly and lasting longer.
Solution: Four simple steps
It's nothing complicated, but preparation is key – just like with full face makeup, lips need a base on which the color will last.

1. Lip preparation
Before applying lipstick, it is essential that your lips are well-groomed. A light exfoliation removes dry skin, and then they need to be moisturized. You should choose light conditioner, which absorbs quickly and does not leave a greasy film. This will create an even base that allows for smooth application of paint.
2. A thin layer of concealer
Here lies the key difference. Instead of applying lipstick directly, she advises to lightly dab it on your lips. apply concealer – one that is both moisturizing and dries to a matte finish. It is important that it is very thin layer, preferably by gently tapping with your finger. The concealer creates a surface to which the pigment adheres better and thus lasts longer.
3. Setting with powder
Once the concealer dries, follow with a light applying transparent setting powder. You should choose a finely milled powder that creates a velvety, dry finish without being too heavy. Excessive amounts of powder can, on the contrary, reduce the staying power and accentuate dryness, so the rule of thumb is: less is more.
4. Lip liner and lipstick
Once the substrate is prepared, the usual application follows. lip pencil, which is recommended to be used not only for contouring, but also over the entire surface.
Then it is applied lipstick or gloss. If desired, a combination can be used – lipstick first, then gloss only in the center of the lips. Matte and semi-gloss formulas work best, as they blend beautifully with foundation and they don't spill.
It's not a new technique, but a matter of consistent preparation. Long-lasting lipstick doesn't just depend on the quality of the product, but also from the surface it is applied to. By following these four steps, the color will not only be more intense, but will lasted for several hours – without the need for constant repairs.
