French band Nouvelle Vague rose to fame when they reworked 1980s new wave and punk hits in a bossa nova style on their debut album. Nouvelle Vague is a play on words that means new wave in French and refers to both the 1960s French film movement and the 1980s musical movement that is the source of their repertoire.
