The tradition of visiting a theater, opera or ballet performance on the last day of the year has been preserved for many decades. This year, theaters and opera houses across Slovenia are also preparing a selection of New Year's Eve performances as a pleasant introduction to the festive night. City Magazine offers a small selection with an overview of the performances. The offer on New Year's Eve will certainly be much wider, but we just have to go to our beloved theater. Among the opera or ballet performances, we can see Verdi's solemn opera La Traviata or the romantic ballet La Sylphide. The first will be presented at the SNG Maribor at 5 pm, the second produced by the SNG Opera Ljubljana at 7 pm. The SNG Maribor also promises Shakespeare's What You Want directed by Janusz Kic. It will be on the program at 5:30 pm. For the last evening of the year, the SNG Nova Gorica is staging Iztok Mlakar's play, based on Molière's motifs, Dohtar pod mus, directed by Vito Taufer. We can also expect a rich program in the capital, where mostly hits from the last theater season will be presented. At the Youth Theater, we will experience the cabaret culinary experience Love to Death, which the creators describe as a concert for a chef, six apprentices and three cooks. It will be on the program the day before New Year's Eve at 7:30 p.m. Four more performances have been selected: two are being prepared at the Ljubljana City Theater, and two at the Ljubljana Drama Theater. The drama will step into the New Year with two comedies: Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice directed by Eduard Miler at 7 p.m. and Vinko Möderndorfer's The Little Girl Gets Married, directed by Jako Andrej Vojevac at 8 p.m. The Ljubljana City Theater is also preparing works that will make us laugh. The first work, Molière's The Imaginary Patient directed by Mile Korun, begins at 7:30 PM, and the second, Fon's Dog, Pussy and Faggot directed by Primož Ekart, begins at 8 PM.
