Why? A new study finds that many floods, like the one in 2012 when Hurricane Sandy ravaged the US and flooded subways and streets, will be three to 17 times more common by the end of the century.

Already For three thousand years, the level of the world's oceans has not risen so fast. Two recent studies published in the American journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, revealed that sea levels might even have fallen if it hadn't global warming, caused by us humans. The damage caused by sea level rise is increasing even faster than the rising sea level.
The two studies also found that during this century, the ocean level will rise on average at least by 28 centimeters, possibly even by 130 cm, which of course greatly threatens seaside New York. Many of its streets can be transformed into navigable canals, similar to Venice, and they know how to replace yellow taxis gondolas.
Natural disasters the magnitude of Hurricane Sandy was until recently a millennial phenomenon, but today it is four hundred years old. What can happen so that New York will soon become American Venice.
