Sony is teasing the competition with two new models of compact cameras that approach the quality of DSLRs. The family has been joined by the NEX-5 and NEX-3 models, which combine DSLR image quality and the convenient possibility of changing lenses in an elegant new design that easily slips into our pocket or purse. Unlike conventional DSLRs, thanks to their 'mirrorless' construction, both cameras are just 24.2mm wide (NEX-5 without grip and attachments) and 25.4mm (NEX-3 without grip and attachments) at their thinnest work. An additional advantage of the NEX-5 is its strong yet lightweight magnesium body, making the NEX-5 the smallest and lightest interchangeable lens digital camera. At the heart of both cameras is a new sensor Exmor APS HD CMOS with a resolution of 14.2 million effective pixels. The NEX-5 and NEX-3 are also the first cameras to offer the added convenience of HD video recording. By pressing the special Movie REC button, the NEX-3 and NEX-5 cameras record HD video with stereo sound in the form of compact MPEG4 files.
