A rebellious Dutch woman wanders the desolate Irish expanses, enjoying voluntary solitude. She meets a mature man, a widower, who lives a solitary life in a remote house on a beautiful island. She is radical and uncompromising, he is gentle, wise and ironic. They are connected by loneliness, which they both understand as freedom.
