The Slovenian office OFIS Arhitekti completed the two-year construction of a villa in Ljubljana at the beginning of this year. The villa is located in Ljubljana's Mirj, in the Trnov suburb of the center of Ljubljana, and in the immediate vicinity of the south side of the Emon wall, restored according to Jože Plečnik's plans.
During restoration villas Villa Criss-Cross Envelope are at the Slovenian architectural office - OFFICE Architects - decided to preserve the original retaining wall of the villa, which used to overlook the main street, where the famous Plečnik pyramids are located. The villa surprises both with its modern exterior and airy interior. They form the external facade perforated metal plates with diagonal crosses, which, in addition to their exceptional aesthetic function, prevent random passers-by from seeing the external balconies, which descend in a terraced manner from the highest to the lowest floor of the house. Inside, we notice two dominant elements – the coolness of the concrete walls and the warmth of the wooden shell. The construction of the house was carried out with a family with three children in mind, so the interior of the villa is not defined by walls, but by floors - the ground floor is a common living space, the first floor is dedicated to the youngest, the second floor to the parents. With thoughtful planning and utilization of every millimeter - the walls of the house consist of built-in cupboards for storing everything that would otherwise be kept in the basement and attic, which are not found in new buildings - it is certainly dream home, which satisfies even the most demanding.
