There is no debate, Ahab (formed in 2004), as far as doom metal goes, they bring us something unique. Typical Black Sabbath, Candlemass and Solitude Aeturnus comparisons do not hold true for them. Every album brings bombastic and unstoppable avalanches of sound that create a real sonic boom. Each piece is epic within epicness and Droste's vocals took that epicness in an unexpected direction. "Unpredictability" in doom metal can sometimes come off as an exaggeration, but with Ahab, unpredictability works.
Hector (one of the band's founders) writes their songs as Carcass in slow-motion and as Morbid Angel, discovering new dimensions of slowness with Blessed Are The Sick. He mentioned that the atmospheric parts feel like Devin Townsend going into doom metal.
In short, Ahab manage to caress the ears of even those who don't like doom metal, which is the ultimate achievement of any musician. Welcome to the Lost Souls soundtrack.
Esoteric (UK) – experimental/funeral doom metal

In July 1992, 5 individuals came together with a mission to create dark, expressive and innovative music. The lyrics and music are reflections of their thoughts, philosophies, emotions and experiences. The music captures the essence of the word 'Esoteric' (ideas understood by a small group of people with rare or unusual interests - in short, hipsters, before it was cool)
A slow sound rises from the depths. The sound falsely makes us think that there will be brighter parts, but it immediately turns into a wave of massive guitars accompanied by crushing vocals. Estoeric will take us on a sonic journey – a daring journey into the abyss of the human mind. The English masters of psychedelic doom explore the subconscious and with their help our darkest thoughts are heard. Many of their albums can be described as psychodramas.
