In his latest series of photographs, Alex John Beck set out to explore the definition of external beauty through the symmetry of the face.
Both sides of is the title of a series of photographs by the photographer Alex John Beck and each of the photographs in the collection shows two versions of symmetrical faces. One shows the left side of the model's face and has been mirrored into a beauty shot of what appears to be the entire face, while the other photo shows the right side of the face.
Beautiful faces, both in fashion and in the real world, are often described as symmetrical, and Beck chose to portray them as such. Its main purpose was to make it appear as if each half of the face was a mirror image of the other. None of the photos show the real image of the model, but a manipulated version of it. Beck was able to show how asymmetrical faces are and how different someone would look if both sides of the face were symmetrical.
