Audi, Airbus and Italdesign have joined forces to present the latest concept of transportation in the future. The concept includes a passenger capsule that can be attached to a motorized platform, and we also have a drone-like quadcopter for flying purposes.
At Italdesign, they say that the project Pop.Up Next represents the next step in reducing congestion and freeing up traffic in urban centers. It is an all-electric solution with no harmful emissions. Pop.Up Next is actually an electric car that can separated from its drive unit and with the help of four propellers it flies easily into the air. The original idea was already presented at last year's Geneva Motor Show, but since he joined the project Audi, everything has become technologically much more sophisticated and even more interesting.
Audi's contribution is notable in the field of autonomous driving and electric drive unit. The aviation giant is of course behind the quadcopter Airbus, which has been improving the rotors for the last year and thereby increasing the efficiency of the flying part of the concept. Italdesign and Airbus paid special attention to the joint that combines the two-seater capsule with the flight unit, so that it will be attached as well as possible. The whole concept should work autonomously. The capsules with passengers were supposed to drive independently on the road, but when a longer distance had to be traveled, the quadcopter would pick up the passengers in the capsule and take them to the other end of the city. When will we really see something like this in practice is a question, because today's systems are not yet independent enough to take on such a responsible task. But we are certainly on the right track, as we witness new innovations almost every day both in the field of autonomous driving and in the field of electrically driven means of transport.
