From the first 'teasers' we saw, we expected a lot from Porsche Project Gold. And we were not disappointed, because Project Gold is much more than just a gold-colored and air-cooled Porsche.
The guys at the special department Porsche Classic rolled up their sleeves and started a project with the name Project Gold, which included a full restaurant Porsche 911, more precisely the model 993. Initially skeptical about the choice of gold color, we were quickly silenced by the photos, because the 'old-timer' is absolutely fantastic. Although the restorers had a free hand, they did not resort to excessive conversions and updates, but simply the car adjusted modern time.
The basis for processing was Porsche 993, which was the last of the 911 series to have aerial chilled engine. The work was demanding, as they dismantled the old 993 to its original form and then reassembled it, practically making the new one 911 Turbo S. Porsche even assigned the 'rookie' a chassis number that follows that Porsche 993 that the last one rolled off the production line in the year 1998. But if we're being completely honest, all the effort and dedication paid off at the first sight of the reborn car. They needed for the whole project 18 months and also covered the anti-rust protection and painting process as used by today's Porsches. The gold color is even the same as the one you'll find on the latest 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series. At the same time, it is also the only one modern the 'upgrade' that befell the gold Porsche 993.
The redesign of the Porsche 993 is historic completely correct. No modern basics, just the restoration of components that already proved to be top-notch at the time. 3.6 liter air-cooled engine with two turbines has 450 of horses powers. Porsche claims that the engine is new, as is the suspension, of course everything historically appropriate and only restored in the local Porsche Classic workshop. Unfortunately, it's a car unique, which it is not suitable for driving on the road. All this for a bunch bureaucratic obstacle and limitation with exhaust gases and engine specifications. That doesn't mean you can't own one. It will be sold at the end of October on auction, and they expect a handsome sum of money for it. It is only a rare Porsche that is practically new and dressed in an attractive gold color.
