More than 8 million tons of plastic are thrown into the sea every year, and by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans. Growing awareness of the dangers of plastic is one of the reasons why consumers are demanding that brands do more to protect our waters. This time, the luxury brand Prada is on the move, presenting the Re-nylon capsule collection and with it a promise to use only recycled nylon from 2021.
Prada started with a pioneering project Re-nylon, introducing a sustainable line of iconic Prada bag and purse silhouettes with the unique new recycled nylon ECONLYL – this was created together with the textile yarn manufacturer, Aquafil, and is obtained through it recycling and cleaning of plastic waste from oceans, fishing nets and textile waste.
New material can be, so to speak recycles forever without losing quality. Re-nylon is Prada's bold move and a step towards sustainability, and the aim is yes by 2021, sustainable nylon will completely replace conventional nylon.
The collection includes six classic styles, for women and for men: waist bag, shoulder bag, large bag, sports bag (duffle) and two Prada backpacks. The entire line is made from environmentally friendly materials, and the unique interpretation of the triangular Prada logo emphasizes their focus on renewable resources. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of the capsule collection will Prada donates to a project related to environmental sustainability.
