Don Quixote is considered one of the more demanding ballets. Minkus's Don Quixote, based on Petipa's script and choreographed by Gorski, is coming to the stage of SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana.
In the 18th and 19th centuries, quixotic materials for the ballet stage appeared one after the other. Minkusov ballet Don Quixote, based on Petipa's script and choreographed by Gorsky, was well received after its premiere in Moscow in 1869. It is in different treatments Don Quixote remained in the repertoire for many years.
The starting point Don Quixote ballet is Cervantes's Don Quixote, at the heart of which is the love story between Kitri and Basil. They are the driving force of the story Don Quixote and his father Sancho Panza, and besides them, the Spanish atmosphere is created by Mercedes, Espada, Marquis Gamache, Kitra's friends, Basil's friend, bullfighters, gypsies and others.
Don Quixote in addition to being a comic figure, she is also a great romantic, while Dulcinea is unattainable and eternal at the same time. The success of this ballet story is based on spectacular technique and dance dynamics. "The main characters in the ballet were well characterized by Minkus with a characteristic motif. The pompous and at the same time sad tone is interesting Don Quixote and the comedy polka that characterizes Sanč. The love story between Kitri and Basil is nicely illustrated by the great concluding pas de deux," they wrote at the presentation of the premiere.
Ballet Don Quixote choreographer Irek Mukhamedov on stage SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana thus he remains faithful to Minkus and Petipa, as the purpose of the staging is also to preserve the heritage - the libretto, individual variations and the great pas de deux.
Performances will also take place: April 10, 12, 15, and 16 at 7:30 p.m. and April 11 at 6 p.m.
