At the height of his fame, Michael Jackson had a long-term relationship with two boys aged 7 and 10. Now in their late 30s, they recall the sexual harassment and their later experiences of harrowing events. The premiere of the documentary Leaving Neverland (Leaving Neverland) is available on HBO GO in its entirety from March 8, and on the HBO channel, part 1 will be broadcast on April 10 at 20:00, and part 2 on April 11 at the same time.
A two-part documentary Leaving Neverland investigates two separate but parallel stories of two boys who befriended Michael Jackson. James Jimmy Safechuck was 10 years old at the time, Wade Robson pa 7. When the King of Pop's career was at its peak, they and their families were invited into his magical world, which overwhelmed everyone.
Through difficult interviews with James, now 37, and Wade, 41, as well as their mothers, wives, brothers and sisters, the documentary builds a picture about constant abuse and explores the complex feelings that led both men to confront their childhood experiences as they became parents themselves.
The documentary recently had its world premiere at the Sundance Festival, namely in the category Special Events. The first praise from critics was published in the Rolling Stone newspaper, which described the documentary as "very hard to watch, even harder to ignore and impossible to forget... a portrait of courage", the Hollywood Reporter wrote about the film that it is "exciting, complex and sad" , and Variety emphasized that this is "a devastatingly powerful and convincing testimony".
