Valvasor lived during the Baroque period, a period that influenced the views of all classes of the population. Baroque looked for grandeur and strong impressions in fine art. Opera dominated the musical arts. In many European nations, science achieved brilliant growth. At the same time, science gained momentum, especially in mathematics, physics, natural sciences and medicine. Scientists put observation and testing as the foundation of all scientific research work and thus introduced a new critical scientific method - empiricism. In religious (spiritual) life, the expression of strong emotional experiences, piety and religious truths was emphasized, using theatrical elements in the religious ceremony. It was a time of veneration of saints, pilgrimages, consumption of devotionals, great success of religious orders and a rich repertoire of various performances with pious content, on important religious holidays.
