So how do you keep your winter clothes in top shape through the cold months? Many of us are faced with the dilemma of whether to wash a garment at home or take it to a dry cleaner. There are simple tricks and tips you can follow at home to restore the freshness of your down jacket or coat without risking damage to the fabric or down. It is recommended to wash the down jacket infrequently, because each wash cycle reduces the natural oils in the down and affects the elasticity of the jacket. In case washing is necessary, follow these steps:
Washing machine: Use a washing machine with a higher capacity and select a program for delicate laundry. It is recommended to use a liquid detergent for delicate laundry or a specialized down detergent. Classic detergents can damage delicate fabric.
Washing: Wash the down jacket at low temperatures, between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius. Add a tennis ball or silicone ball to the drum to prevent the fluff from sticking together.
Drying: Air dry the jacket or tumble dry on low. While drying, regularly shake the down to distribute the down evenly. If drying in the dryer, add a few tennis balls to keep the down fluffy.
Washing coats
