The process of preparing homemade poppies:
First we make the yeast. Crumble the yeast into a cup, sprinkle a spoonful of sugar, pour in a deciliter of milk, mix, cover with a cloth and leave to rise for about 10 minutes so that it begins to rise. While the yeast is rising, sift the flour into a bowl (this will make the poppy seeds fluffier) and make a well in the middle. Sprinkle salt and the remaining sugar on the edge. Pour yeast, egg, lukewarm milk and melted butter into the center. Gradually mix in the flour and knead the dough. Knead this thoroughly so that all the ingredients are combined and it becomes flexible and smooth. Place it in a floured bowl, cover it with a damp cloth and let it rise for about an hour. Then it is kneaded once more and rolled into a centimeter-thick rectangle. Cut the rectangles into smaller squares and roll them into a loaf. We dip them in beaten egg and roll them in poppy seeds like a pig in mud. Place them on baking paper and let them stand for another three quarters of an hour before placing them in an oven heated to 170 degrees Celsius. Bake them for 30 minutes. Have a good run!
