Once upon a time there lived a lovely girl who was loved by everyone. She was especially loved by her mother and grandmother, who gave her a red bonnet. The little girl was so excited about the cap that she wore it always and everywhere, so everyone who knew her just called her Little Red Riding Hood. Red Riding Hood is a story about growing up (Red Riding Hood's initiation path through the forest) and taking responsibility. Little Red Riding Hood went astray and met a wolf because she did not listen to those more experienced than herself (her mother had specifically told her not to leave the well-trodden path through the dark forest). With sweet words, the wolf so deceived her that he was able to devour her grandmother first and then cunningly Red Riding Hood. Fortunately, a hunter came by Grandma's house and saved Little Red Riding Hood and Grandma from the wolf's belly. As is usual in fairy tales, justice prevails and the punishment is just, even if it seems cruel by today's standards - the greedy wolf dies because of a stomach full of stones. The original Grimm fairy tales follow the laws of nature and do not embellish or "sweeten" their motifs.
