The healing effects of water from sulfur springs were already known to the Romans, which is why they founded Eburodunum, today's Yverdon, on the southeastern shore of Lake Neuchâtel, which is one of the most famous Swiss spas. The city of 22,000 inhabitants is truly blessed with beautiful surroundings surrounded by the Jurassic Mountains and Lake Neuchâtel.
Most visitors, of course, visit Yverdon for the thermal center, although the old town, with its attractive pedestrian-only area, offers a walk through the rich history of the place, and will not leave indifferent even those obsessed with shopping. The water in the thermal center comes from a spring 500 meters deep and is the most important part of the spa offer. Three swimming pools, one of which is covered, and several massage pools help visitors to completely relax and "disconnect" from the burdens of everyday life. The thermal center is divided into several parts. The part dedicated to relaxation is equipped with saunas, hammams, Japanese baths, massage pools and an outdoor terrace where you can surrender to the sun's rays and relax even more with a view of the mountains. In the beauty center, the professionals focus mainly on beauty and gaining an ideal weight with programs of a few hours or a few days. A beautiful body does not form on its own, it will be 'produced' in a spacious fitness center or by practicing water aerobics. Keen athletes can measure their skills in the sports clinic, where they can improve their form with individual programs or check it with various tests. Since the water from the sulfur springs especially helps people with rheumatism, the health center specialized mainly as a therapeutic center for rheumatology and sports medicine. Yverdon also offers other attractions. Lovers of beauty should definitely not miss the Swiss Fashion Museum, which displays 2 centuries of elegant clothing with 5,000 dresses and fashion accessories. One of the most interesting Swiss museums is certainly the Maison d'Ailleurs, which is dedicated to science fiction. More than 40,000 books and 20,000 documents and objects related to science fiction attract, in addition to the curious, a huge number of researchers and students who can find the literature they need in the museum.
Baden
The Swiss thermal baths with the highest mineral content in the water, which reaches a temperature of 47 °C, are located near Zurich, in the town of Baden. The nineteen sulfur springs and their medicinal effects attracted the Romans, who called the place Aquae Helveticae. Goethe, Nietzsche and Hermann Hesse used to go to Baden, where they alleviated their problems with rheumatism and blood circulation, and above all, in the desire to relax, like thousands of wanderers who still visit the resort today. In addition to the public bath, various centers and hotels offer numerous packages that include baths, massages and beauty treatments, and the king of the additional offer is undoubtedly the Grand Casino Baden with an endless number of possibilities for 'extra income', a superb culinary offer and an interesting artistic program all year round. The pedestrian-only city center of Baden, numerous museums and, of course, the proximity of Zurich ensure that a holiday in Baden is by no means boring. The Langmatt Foundation in Baden is one of the most important Swiss Impressionist art collections, collected by the wealthy Brown and Boeri families. Even children will not be bored, because when visiting the Swiss Children's Museum, they can have fun during the presentation of childhood and toys from three centuries. The center of the action in Baden is, of course, the area of the ThermalBaden thermal center with indoor and outdoor pools. In the Spa center Limmathof Novum, you can find inner peace with the help of massages, Ayurvedic programs, pubs and hammams. Another wellness center is the Schweizerhof Thermal Spa, where you can recharge your batteries with a special treatment called the Roman Baths.
Waltz
The mountain village of Vals is located at 1,250 meters above sea level, at the bottom of the Vals valley, south of Illanza. The village with charming houses covered with stone roof tiles made of local quartzite represents the traditional part of the village, and its complete opposite is currently the most attractive landmark in the place, the architectural achievement of the renowned architect Peter Zumthor, the thermal center Therme Vals. In the 1980s, the municipality of Vals bought a bankrupt hotel from the 1960s and invited Peter Zumthor to participate. His task was to build a new thermal center around the only thermal spring in the area, and he did the job so well that only two years after its opening, the entire complex became protected as an architectural monument, and today his photos appear in all the international publications that write on modern design and architecture. The architectural wonder is made of Valais quartzite and concrete, and water, light, steam and heat emphasize the importance of the bathing ritual and intertwine into an unforgettable wellness experience. The hotel, which is part of the offer, opens new rooms every year, also designed in the mind of Peter Zumthor. They also opened a new restaurant last year, which uses local products from farmers who have been producing exclusively organic food for years.
St. Moritz, Engadin
Fresh alpine air, crystal clear water and unspoilt nature are the ideal environment for invigorating body and spirit. The idyllic Engadin Alps combine water, air, sun and nature with a high mountain climate, and with a long-standing hotel tradition, cosmopolitan cuisine and an excellent offer, the famous St. Moritz guaranteed. Thermal springs in St. Moritz has the highest healing springs in Switzerland. It is known that they have been diving into the pleasantly warm bubbles of the iron-rich springs of Saint Moritz more than 3,000 years ago, as archaeologists discovered a wooden water pipe from 1466 BC. Later, the church of Saint Maurice became one of the most important pilgrimage centers in Europe, and renowned medical pioneers, including Paracelsus, praised the effects of the water at Saint Maurice. In the 19th and 20th centuries, entire royal courts visited the Engadine spa. Due to the high altitude (1856 meters) and the dry climate with 322 sunny days per year, the climate in the resort is described as a "champagne climate". St. Moritz is also special because of the mixture of three cultures: the majority German-speaking population, the Romansh-speaking inhabitants of the Engadin and the influence of the nearby Italian-speaking region, to which we must add a mixture of visitors, 70 percent of whom are foreigners. The fact that St. Moritz hosted the Winter Olympics twice, in 1928 and 1948. And what to do in winter or summer if the sun happens to hide? Let's visit the medical therapy center MTZ Heilbad St. Moritz, where an experienced team of doctors and therapists creates individual wellness for their guests, and complements their holistic approach with specialist advice in the fields of cosmetics, proper nutrition, etc. Nearby Pontresina is also a renowned spa resort with a wonderful view of the Bernese mountain massif and the latest attraction – the Bellavita Pool and Spa, which is especially attractive to children. Lovers of heights, however, must climb 3,000 meters high and treat themselves to a bath in the highest massage pool in Europe, in Diavolezza, where even the most disbelieving Tomaž will realize that Arnold Rikli was right when he praised the sun, air and water.
