Christmas is already knocking on the door and the race is on for the perfect gifts to give to our loved ones. But buying a gift is not the hardest part, the hardest part is deciding which one is the gift that will put the biggest smile on the face of the one receiving it.
With this in mind, the web portal OnBuy.com conducted a study on 2,538 people in a relationship (1,254 men and 1,284 women). They were sent 15 types of gifts, which they then gave to their partners. People who took part in the research and received the gift had to use a device to monitor their heart rate before and after receiving the gifts. The aim of the study was to find out which gifts excite us the most.
Gifts for women
The study found that the gift that pleased women the most was jewelry, which increased heart rate by an incredible 65 percent (from an average of 83 beats per minute to 137 beats per minute upon receiving the gift). They are in second place technology gifts, in which women had an average heart rate of 135 beats per minute, a 63 percent increase in heart rate. They are in third place perfumes, who raised women's heart rates to 128 beats per minute. Handbags follow with 126 beats per minute, books with 124 beats per minute and erotic toys with 119 beats per minute.
The gifts that impressed women the least were food/desserts, which raised the heart rate by just under 4 percent – to 86 beats per minute.

Book gifts have the same effect on men as they do on women - 124 beats per minute - and it is also interesting that they have the same response to erotic gifts - 119 beats per minute.
The gifts that impressed men the least were toiletries, who failed to raise their heart rate at all - moreover, it dropped by 1 percent when they received the gift.
