We've finally got a feature that's sure to save lives, and it's been cranked up by none other than the Swedes - Volvo to be exact. Technology has been built into their new Volvo S60, which premiered in Geneva Pedestrian Detection, which mainly saves the lives of pedestrians. The system consists of a camera and radar that detect pedestrians in front of the car. In such a case, the system alerts the driver and, if the driver does not react quickly enough, initiates automatic braking of the car. It works at all speeds, but at speeds lower than 35 km/h the main goal is to stop the vehicle, and at higher speeds it is mainly a rapid reduction of speed. They boast that they have been developing and testing the technology for as long as 5 years: "We have trained the system so that it recognizes the behavior of pedestrians in different cultures." We can only hope that the system will soon be serially installed in all Volvos.
