The film presents the amusing story of the parrot Blu, who leaves the safety of his home cage and goes to Rio de Janeiro in search of a companion. There he meets the cute Jewel, but in order to charm the playful young lady, the domesticated Blu must first learn to fly. The impossible task is made even more difficult by wild hunters who try to catch them, as they belong to a rare species of parrot. Blu must therefore, with the help of new fun friends, find the courage to spread his wings and tackle many adventures.
