At the height of his writing career, Charles Dickens meets a younger woman who becomes his secret lover until his death. The year is 1850, Ellen Ternan is a minimally talented actress who catches the eye of famous British author Charles Dickens. Bored with his intellectually disinterested wife, Dickens takes the educated Ellen under his wing and with the help of her mother, they become lovers.
And what comes next? A stormy relationship between a literary giant and a young woman who is offered a life that only a few of her peers can enjoy.
