São Paulo: Escape the cold in Latin America's largest city

Brazil

The largest South American city, São Paulo, lies on the Piratininga plateau, surrounded by rivers that make their way inland. The culturally mixed city caters to a wide variety of immigrants from all over the world, who color the city streets in Portuguese, Spanish, German, African, Jewish, Arab and Japanese cultural tones.

In São Paulo, there is no shortage of wonderful cultural attractions, city views and well-kept green parks. Art lovers immerse themselves in the paintings of one of the galleries, while culture lovers should definitely stop by the Museu de Arte de São Paulo, Pinacoteca do Estado and Museu Afro Brasil to get a real feel for the Brazilian art scene. While wandering the beautiful Avenida Paulista or searching for treasures in the Mercado Municipal, you'll forget how huge the city really is. You'll get the best view of it from the observation deck of the 46-story Itália Building on Avenida Ipiranga.

When to São Paulo?

The best time to visit São Paulo is from March to May or from October to November (autumn and spring season), when the temperatures are pleasant, there is less rainfall (and less fog) in the city, and the premiere events are in full swing.

Here you can admire the works of Impressionists and modern masters, Renoir, Van Gogh, Matisse, Manet, Picasso, Miró and other painters. Although the works also date back to the Renaissance, the museum focuses more on artists from the mid-20th century, and the city also dedicates itself to contemporary Brazilian artists in Brazil. Due to its exceptional collections, it will be placed alongside the world's largest galleries such as Tate Modern, MoMA and Center Pompidou.

From art to the greatest passion of Latin America - football. Museo do Futebol is an integral part of the Brazilian metropolis. The museum, entirely dedicated to the most important sideline in the world, offers insight and information about football as such, and as much as 6,000 m2 and 15 galleries with interactive exhibitions are dedicated to this. You can test your skills by taking penalties against a virtual goalkeeper.

When you get tired of spending time inside four walls, head outside. Parque do Ibirapuera was designed by the landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx, and the buildings are the work of the world-famous Oscar Niemeyer. The park combines a series of playgrounds, gardens, trails, lakes, as well as museums and performance spaces. The green paradise of the city is extremely popular, with more than 14 million people visiting it every year. Most major cities have impressive markets full of fresh produce, local delicacies and artisan goods.
