If you thought Scream VI in 2023 brought the bloody chapter of this iconic franchise to a close, get ready for the next twist: Scream 7 will bring back classic faces, resurrect dead heroes, and dig deeper into the Ghostface mythology than anyone dared to expect in 2026. At the center of the story is once again the incomparable Sidney Prescott, played again by Neve Campbell after an absence of several years – this time no longer as a terrified survivor, but as a mother willing to kill for her daughter.
The film Scream 7, which will hand the directing reins back to Kevin Williamson – the screenwriter and visionary of the original Scream from 1996 – promises a return to the roots while boldly expanding the franchise. Scream 7 will be both a tribute and a reinvention, a blend of nostalgia and modern horror, with many surprises that will test the loyalty of longtime fans and excite a new generation of horror fans.
Sidney, the daughter and the new threat
After all the bloody years, Sidney Prescott has created a peaceful life for herself in a small town, away from the spotlight and killer masks. But peace, as we know from the first part, never lasts long. When a new Ghostface – this time even more sadistic and deliberate – becomes the target of her teenage daughter, Tatum Evans-Prescott (Isabel May). Sidney must decide: will she run away again, or will she confront the evil that has been lurking around her neck for decades?
Well, the answer is clear – Sidney doesn’t back down. Her transformation from victim to protective mother will be the common thread of the seventh film, which will test the limits of family bonds, trauma and the fight for survival. This is no longer just a personal story – it’s a generational struggle.

Resurrection of the dead? Ready for surprises
The most controversial (and already the most debated) element of the film is definitely the return of characters we were sure were long gone in that great movie graveyard: Dewey Riley (David Arquette) and Roman Bridger (Scott Foley). Their return raises a number of questions – are these flashbacks, hallucinations, alternate timelines or – dare we say it – a real resurrection? Franchise Scream it never played by the rules, and perhaps that's what sets it apart from other slashers: a constant willingness to subvert and genre twists that don't let you breathe.
The director who started it all
Kevin Williamson, the original screenwriter and mastermind behind the franchise, is also taking over as director this time. That means – more emphasis on psychological terror, more meta-commentary on horror as a genre, and of course – brilliant twists. Williamson knows how to please his audience. In an era when horror films are experiencing a renaissance (with successes like Hereditary, Barbarian and Talk to Me), will Scream 7 had to surpass himself. And it seems he will.
The script is once again in the hands of Guy Busick, who impressed with Ready or Not and Scream VI, which means we can expect a clever mix of dark humor, suspense, and – of course – gore that will satisfy even the most cynical fans of the genre.

Icons and fresh faces
The cast is a veritable festival of nostalgia and new energy. Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette (how exactly, it's not yet clear...) return in the roles that defined their careers. They are joined by a new generation: Isabel May as Sidney's daughter, Joel McHale as her husband, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O'Connor, Anna Camp, and Mark Consuelos, who, let's be honest, will probably have to run for their lives.
It will also be interesting to see how the dynamics between the old and new characters develop – and which ones will survive. If we stick to the rules of the franchise: don't lie and – for God's sake – don't go to the basement alone.
Scream 7: The first trailer is here
The first official trailer has already sparked a wave of excitement and speculation online. If you haven't seen it yet, get ready for loud screams, eerie music, and clues that you'll be deciphering until the premiere. The internet is already buzzing with theories about who the new Ghostface will be - and are there any more?
February 26, 2026 – a date that horror fans should mark. Scream 7 is not just another horror film. It is a manifesto of loyalty to a franchise that has survived three decades, and at the same time a bold journey into the unknown. Will this be the final chapter? Or the beginning of something new, even more depraved?
One thing is for sure: when Ghostface rings the doorbell, you don't answer with a "hello?" - but with a prayer.
