This time, our garage hosted the smallest model from the Spanish Seat – ibizo sport. In our case, Sport meant an equipment package that made the test Ibiza look sportier. On the outside, this was reflected in larger bumpers, alloy wheels, low-profile tires and a bright red color. The coupé look was also emphasized by the hidden rear door handle. The interior was also sporty: two-tone fittings, three-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminum elements of the gear lever and, of course, sports seats with excellent lateral grip. Under the hood was a 1.4-liter gasoline engine with a power of 63 kW, which is transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission. Due to its dimensions, the car performed best when driving in the city, and on the highway a few extra kilowatts would be welcome, although the final speed is solid. We were also surprised by the good location, only the trunk with a volume of just under 300 liters is too small for longer family trips and furniture shopping.
The urban pulse of the car
As we have already written, with a length of 4 meters, the Ibiza is especially at home in the city, even if it is among the longest vehicles in its segment. Fuel consumption during city driving is suitable for the engine and amounts to 8.2 liters per 100 kilometers, although it could be lower. For the needs of larger purchases, the rear divisible bench can be collapsed, although folding the bench is relatively time-consuming if we want to have at least an approximately flat bottom of the trunk. The interior of the trunk is also among the simpler ones. That's why we were all the more impressed with the adjustable speed limiter, which comes in handy in the city. If the set speed is exceeded, a beep sounds.
Parent friendly
The test Ibiza had an additional built-in deactivation of the passenger airbag, which will be happy for mothers who transport their children in a child seat attached to the passenger seat. The rear bench is equipped with two ISOFIX anchor points. However, due to the small trunk, we think that the Ibiza is primarily the second car in the family - if you have children, of course. Due to its sportier appearance, it will also be loved by men.
We noticed
Among the things that most convinced us about the test Ibiza, the automatic air conditioning system, otherwise part of the additional equipment, certainly belongs. Music lovers will be pleased with two sockets: AUX IN and USB. While driving, you can use the steering wheel controls to help you operate the radio. The only thing that bothered us about the radio was the absence of number keys for storing radio stations. We also had some problems with connecting the phone to the Bluetooth cable - of course, we allow for the possibility that we did it poorly. As far as the storage areas are concerned, they are more sparingly measured in the Ibiza, especially those on the center console - at least for our taste. We were therefore more impressed by the simple but effective solution of the round vent nozzles, which were an excellent contrast to the bright parts of the fittings. Speaking of compliments, these neutral ibizas go around corners, even if the car didn't have the built-in ESP stability control system. Sports seats with adequate lateral grip are also excellent. A useful function is the fog lights, which illuminated the "blind spot" when turning at low speeds. We were a little less impressed by the fact that the compartment in front of the passenger was unlit. The vanity mirrors in the shades were also unlit. The placement of some switches is also a little impractical, namely those for heating the rear window, activating the central locking and turning on all four turn signals. The engineers placed the mentioned switches in front of the gear lever when looking in the direction of travel.
