The Prague Burlesque performance revives an almost forgotten type of stage art that flourished in the first half of the twentieth century. With the help of sensual dance, breathtaking costumes, comedic elements and exotic scenography, it takes the audience to the fantasy world of erotica.
Prague Burlesque was created in 2007 by producer and director David N. Jahn, who also appears in it as his stage alter ego Sonny Vargas. The team currently consists of the three leading ladies Lady Mousellyca, Angelina Angelic and Miss Cool Cat, as well as some dancers. The performance, in English, takes place every Friday in the renovated Art Nouveau gem, Prague's Royal Theatre, and revives the memory of an era when erotica was more sophisticated and women were truly feminine.
During the performance, the dancers and Sonny often switch costumes and return to the stage as police officers, circus performers, an African tribe and bored spouses. The girls gracefully discard individual pieces of clothing during musical points, but key parts of the body always remain hidden. By doing so, they put the emphasis on the art of undressing instead of nudity and leave the audience in eternal suspense.
