When and where the cradle of chess - a popular mind game - originated is unknown, perhaps in India, perhaps in Iran. But we certainly know how we met him in Europe. As for some other things (paper, numbers), we have to thank the Arabs, who in the Middle Ages represented a bridge between Asia and Europe, for the transfer of knowledge. Thus, in the 9th century, chess was introduced to Spain and then to other countries.
In our library we keep some old publications about chess, a royal game. The newspapers that reported on the first tournaments and brought "chess problems" are interesting. The showcase will be enriched by chess from the beginning of the 20th century, which is kept by the Department of Applied Arts and History of the National Museum of Slovenia.
Author of the showcase: dr. Anja Dular.
The display case can be viewed during library opening hours.
