In the April showcase of the month, we will present book material related to mail, stamps, and telecommunications. Among the books, you will also find some interesting items from the Department of History and Applied Arts. Messaging has been around forever. Legends testify to hearsay and messengers, and the first organized messenger services are said to have existed as early as the 19th dynasty of the pharaohs in Egypt. Throughout history, postal services have changed, and some of these echoes can be found in our museum literature. Among other things, we keep quite a lot of address books, statistical reports, a postal map, a postal lexicon from 1892, some recent books on the history of the post office, catalogs of exhibitions and stamps... Of course, we will also serve you a book treat.
The author of the showcase: Urška Pajk
The showcase is on display in the library of the National Museum of Slovenia during its opening hours in April.
