Slavoj Žižek - crazy serious about online dating and (im)perfection [video]

This time, our most famous philosopher Slavoj Žižek spoke about lighter and more human topics, as he gave his opinion on online dating, human (im)perfection and self-control. He expressed his disapproval of people striving for perfection when creating their online profiles, as he believes that love is not about considering someone perfect, but loving them for their "flaws".

"Perfection is an illusion", he claims Slavoj Žižek in his fresh address. The philosopher, who considers himself an incorrigible romantic and is regularly the target of criticism, struck this time with his view of online dating, perfectionism and self-control. He says that people focus too much on how to present themselves as best as possible, when it is precisely the imperfections that make us love someone (this is shown in the example of models Claudia Schiffer and Cindy Crawford).

He then presents an example friends from Latin America, who confided in him that when her partner saw her naked, he told her that he only a few extra pounds separated from perfection, and continued in the same breath that he should never lose them. Why? Because then it will be perfect. But perfection is an illusion, something without "man" and perfect only until it's perfect. So it's better to be like the tail that a dog chases and never really catches.

Žižek continues with self-control, which he spices up with the thought that we are all monsters in reality and that he likes to live in a society where you can do whatever you want, as long as you don't express yourself too much. You wonder what he would be like for him the perfect date and sex scenario? More about this in his speech, which you can listen to below.
