The most beautiful a classic ballet story is also presented on our stages. Since 1890, when she was in the theater Marijinski in St. Petersburg premiered Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty, which was also called the event of the century, this ballet is considered one of the purest works. Even in the form of a ballet, the well-known story preserves the touch of fairy tales and romance, and at the time it was one of the most anticipated premieres in Russia, around which a great deal of dust justifiably arose. The performance symbolized the revolution of ballet music, the constitution of its own Russian ballet style and the renaissance of classical ballet in our century.

Ballet Sleeping Beauty but it is also important because of the historic meeting of two of the most important and greatest artists: Tchaikovsky and Petipai. After the failure of Swan Lake, Tchaikovsky withdrew from writing ballet music for a long time, and Petipa added elements of his native Russian ballet school and the Italian school developed in the 19th century to his inclination towards the Western ballet tradition - his own style was created, which immediately became famous as elegant, aristocratic and brilliant, but at the same time fluent and Russian. When the two masters first met, the music for Sleeping Beauty had already been written, but Petipa asked the composer to make significant changes to the score. Tchaikovsky he followed him patiently and Sleeping Beauty has forever been recognized as Petipa's strongest and most sophisticated work.

The content of the ballet is strongly related to Sleeping Beauty Charles Perrault from 1697, Petipa managed to preserve the fairy tale and romance in many details and added more fairy tale figures. It all creates a virtuoso classical ballet with many pas de deux, variations and romantic ensemble scenes.

The layout that we will be able to see in Ljubljana, will be in the hands of the current artistic director of the ensemble SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana, Ireka Mukhamedova, which we can remember from the 2010/2011 season, when he choreographed the Septet as part of the Vidnonevidno ballet evening.
