The first few months can be very stressful for new parents. And this research has shown that new mums need to look twice at their partner the next time they get out of bed in the middle of the night to comfort or feed their baby.
Research done by the magazine Mother & Baby showed that when a child cries, more than half of fathers pretend to be asleep to avoid getting up at night. It participated in the study 2,000 parents, and what 52 percent of men admitted that when a child cries, they continue to sleep or pretend to sleep. Many men think so in such situations they cannot replace a mother, and 1 in 5 fathers believe that children in such situations only want their mother. There is no end to men's excuses: 3 out of 10 men found an excuse in the fact that must be rested for "tomorrow's working day".
The researchers noted that lack of sleep and resentment of new mothers often lead to problems in partner relationships. 6 out of 10 mothers said that their partners resented them for not getting up at night when their children cried. Almost three-quarters of mothers said they did lack of sleep ruined their love life, and most said that they would rather sleep than play between the sheets.
Among other things, 6 out of 10 women said that they brought the child into the partnership "tremendous tension". Moms generally feel "tired, exhausted and have the feeling that they have to be in several places at once".
Elena Dalrymple, editor of Mother & Baby magazine said: “It may seem logical that mothers are the ones who get up at night during maternity leave, but when they return to work it should be split 50/50. It's a shame that so many fathers don't get up at night, because if the newlyweds worked as a team, it would be easier to get through this difficult period. Their mothers need help, and it is obvious that their father or partner will support them."
