The Danish company Soel Yachts produces a yacht of a very special kind. The Soelcat 12 is special because of its drive energy, as it uses only solar energy for its operation. In this way, it lays the foundation for the cleanest, most environmentally friendly and sustainable form of maritime transport.
Together with the Sea Conservation Foundation Okeanos and resorts Pearl Beach it's from Bora Bora Soel Yachts introduced a completely new way of sustainable and silent tourist transportation of passengers. A yacht Soelcat 12, in the form of a kind of catamaran, was designed from the very beginning with an electric propulsion system in mind. But that's not all, because in the moments when we don't need it for transportation, it quickly turns into floating solar power plant. Constructors Soel Yachts and Naval DC estimate that solar panels on the yacht's roof can provide enough electricity to to four households. The yacht produces 15 kilovoltamperes, which in the resort on Bora Bora can be used to purify seawater and thus, with the help of technology, convert this energy into 4000 liters fresh drinking water in le one hours.
If desired, the solar electric yacht can be quickly disassembled or assembled and thus transported to the other side of the world. Since today we cannot do without tablets and smartphones, Soelcat 12 enables us to manage and monitor energy consumption also via applications. Because we have a battery with capacity 120 kilowatt hours there's no fear of being stuck 'on dry land' when the sun goes below the horizon. The drive is provided by two motors, each with 30 kilowatts power, and together they reach maximum speed 14 knots. The Soelcat 12 is ideal for transporting and entertaining passengers, and all this without a negative impact on the environment.
