South Korea offers everything a traveler could wish for. From rich history to wonderful culture, unusual cuisine and hospitable locals. See for yourself.

South Korea is described by some as a country of contrasts. A land of ancient Buddhist temples and ultramodern skyscrapers. A country with a long tradition and the most advanced technology. But South Korea is much more than that. Located on the southern half of the Korean peninsula, unlike its northern neighbor, it is an exciting and modern destination that attracts tourists from all over the world. Larger cities, such as Seoul, offer the bustle of urban metropolises with a fantastic nightlife, but on the other hand, nature lovers also get their money's worth in South Korea. They will be impressed by the picturesque national parks and islands along the coast. Are you looking for the most unusual corner for a trip? Visit the no man's land located on the border between South and North Korea, which are technically still at war.

When to South Korea?

The best time of year to visit South Korea is spring. Keep in mind the period from April to June, when the weather is fairly dry and sunny, and the temperatures are also favorable. Autumn is also like that, from September to November.

What should I see in South Korea?

Jeonju was once the spiritual capital of the aforementioned dynasty, and is located an hour and a half by train from Seoul. The city is home to many ancient temples and shrines, as well as a preserved traditional "hanok" village full of traditional houses. These can be found in many places around Korea and in Seoul, and the villages are real living open-air museums. These are renovated and well-preserved ancient neighborhoods, some of which can boast of the original houses, while others were forced to be renovated by the authorities.

Visitors get a chance to peek into these houses and get a chance to relive life in Korea 600 years ago. Did you know you can go to the beach in Korea? Busan is the second largest city in the country and its coastline is lined with some beautiful beaches and resorts. Here, too, you can find a range of cultural and historical attractions. Temple of Beomeos is worth your visit, as well as the village of Gamecheon, which is located on a cliff above the sea. Its specialty is its European appearance, which reminds many of the Korean version of Santorini. Seafood lovers must visit Jagalchi Market, the largest commercial seafood market in the country.

Busan is easily accessible from Seoul, just over two hours by Korean bullet train - KTX. Seoraksan National Park is perfect for nature lovers. The country's first national park is famous for its lakes, streams and miles of hiking trails. The park is known for its natural diversity, as it is home to more than 1,500 different animal species, and more than 1,000 different plant species have also found their home here.

There are also two Buddhist temples in the park, one is known as the "Temple of a Hundred Pools" because of the many ponds that surround it. Finally, you must not miss the capital. Seoul is by far the largest city in South Korea and a central tourist destination in East Asia. The sights in the city are endless, but many visitors spend a large part of their time in the magnificent palaces.

One of the highlights of visiting South Korea is visiting the palace Changdeok-gung, the royal residence and one of the five grand palaces built by the Joseon Dynasty in the 15th century. The palace consists of a complex of buildings, each of which serves a different purpose. In some, the royal family was housed, in others there are libraries, dining rooms, meeting rooms, etc. Huwon Garden is a real feast for the eyes, full of carefully arranged greens and flower beds, as well as pagodas, streams and lakes. Also see Gyeongbok-gung Palace, also from the 15th century, with its beautiful park and ancient temples.

Tourists visiting Seoul should climb the city's famous observation tower. It is located almost 500 meters above sea level and offers a wonderful view over the city. On the top floor of the tower you will find a range of restaurants and a panoramic view. If you like more exciting sights, check it out DMZ or demilitarized zone. The border area between North and South Korea. A small section of the DMZ, known as the JSA or Joint Security Area, is open to the public. You can easily step into North Korea here, although it means you'll be inside a building that also houses South Korean soldiers. You can also visit the North Korean gift shop, which sells North Korean stamps, wine and currency.
