The extraordinary Li Hongbo delivers creations that, through inventive technique, play incredibly with our perception. Inspired by both the traditional Chinese technique of paper decoration and his study of sculpture, Li Hongbo takes him on a unique journey of experiencing the art of sculpture.
An in-depth study of the properties of paper as one of the oldest media in the world is Li Hongba among the best creators. By layering and gluing paper, he creates images that, in their compressed state, give the impression of a porcelain, stone or wooden appearance.
The honeycomb-like effect then allows the entire sculpture to expand and twist in all directions. In doing so, it transforms something motionless, delicate and fragile into an almost indestructible flexibility of endless possibilities. His creations thus become something that constantly changes and unfolds into different forms, as if they were forever new works. This kind of playing with traditional aesthetics and mobility brings a unique spirit to the art, which mesmerizes the observer in an unforgettable way.
You can see Li Hogb's latest exhibition until March 2, 2014 at New York's Klein Sun Gallery.
