Saturday, June 15, 2013, between 6 p.m. and midnight, National Museum of Slovenia - Prešernova and Metelkova

On Summer Museum Night, the museum doors will be open until midnight. We have prepared a rich selection of guided tours, workshops and presentations for visitors of all ages, and most publications of the National Museum of Slovenia will be available at a discount. In the evenings, we will be joined by curators who will be able to reveal many interesting things to all the curious.

PROGRAM:

NMS – Prešernova:

From 18:00 to 20:00: GREETINGS FROM THE BALKANS; workshop for children
Children will make postcards with images from the 19th century, try to learn some new words in foreign languages, get to know different fonts and learn to accept and respect differences.

At 6 p.m.: FROM STONE SCRAPER TO BRONZE MIRROR; public guidance through the exhibition Treasures of the National Museum of Slovenia; led by dr. Peter Turk
You will get to know the creative achievements that were created in prehistory and antiquity.

At 10 p.m.: Guided tour of the IMAGES OF THE BALKANS exhibition. Identity and memory in the long 19th century; led by mag. Jože Podpečnik
NMS – Metelkova:

NMS - Metelkova will be open for visitors until 1 am.

At 6 p.m.: Martial arts in the Middle Ages; performed by the Academia Artis Dimicatoriae
Armor was the exceptional protection of knights, these elite warriors who were considered invincible for a long time. But how is the armor actually put on and what parts does it consist of? How did the knight - before going into battle - protect himself, how did he dress? In addition to these basic facts, AAD members will also present duels - without armor - with different weapons, which depended on the reason for fighting. A court duel was, of course, not the same as a battle on the battlefield, and a tournament fight was something else entirely.

From 18:00 to 22:00: DRAGON, summer to the heights!; creative workshop for children
In a relaxed atmosphere, children will get to know concepts such as - knight, lady, castle, middle ages, etc. and made paper kites. Maybe we can raise the dragons to the sky…

At 7 p.m.: Public guided tour of the Historical and Art Collection exhibition; led by dr. Maja Lozar Štamcar
From 19:00 to 24:00: Everyday life in the Middle Ages: knight's camp; It is carried out by the association of lovers of the Middle Ages
A knight's camp will grow in front of the museum, where visitors will be able to see tents, a pavilion, a shade and sleeping tent, kitchen and sleeping equipment, weapons and protective equipment.

At 8 p.m.: Musical instruments and music and dance in the Middle Ages; performed by the Capella Carniola Early Music Ensemble
You will be able to learn live the organological characteristics of their reconstructions and listen to how some typical works from the European musical treasury of the Middle Ages and Renaissance sound on them.

At 9 p.m.: Parzival and Slovenian narrative songs from the age of chivalry; Ljoba Jenče and Tanja Vogrin
At 10 p.m.: Guide to the Knight, Lady and Dragon exhibition; led by mag. Tomaž Nabergoj
We will remove the veils of mystery that still cling to warriors in metal armor today and get to know their culture, spirituality and life at home and on the battlefield up close.

Entry to the museum and all events is free!
