A31 architectural firm has placed two summer residences in the rugged and raw landscape of the Greek island of Andros. The project called "nonagriam twins" consists of two independent houses that are connected to the topography of the area.
Nonagriamic twins ("nonagriam twins") are spread over a plot of approximately 600 square meters, within a spacious area of 9,200 square meters.
Residence A comprises an open plan lounge and dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms with sea views, basement master bedroom and a separate guest unit on the lower level. House A is organically connected to the natural stone cave with a staircase. A special feature house B and there are basement bedrooms, which are accessed via internal atrium. Both houses have a separate guest unit on the lower level, and they are connected to the sea by vast swimming pools.
The architectural design of the project, nestled in the natural landscape of the island of Andros, is modern and sharp. Airy spaces, without columns or walls, are connected to the surrounding nature through large window openings that allow an unobstructed view.
Underground units are an example smart, energy efficient architectural solutions. Because geothermal heating and passive design heating in winter and cooling in summer minimal.
The roofs of both houses are built of concrete slabs and covered with the surrounding vegetation, which creates heat shield behind the houses, while at the same time connecting them with the surrounding nature. These 'green roofs' are an integral part of advanced climate-adapted construction in the midst of the wonderfully wild landscape of the island of Andros.
