Iconic global entertainment brands Illumination and Nintendo have joined forces for the first time to create The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a new big-screen adventure starring one of pop culture's most iconic plumbers of the past four decades. The film, based on Nintendo's Mario games, hits theaters in early April and invites viewers into a vibrant and exciting new universe never seen before in an action-packed comedy.
The Super Mario Movie directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, written by Matthew Fogel. The film was produced by Illumination studio founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and Nintendo representative director and collaborator Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario. For more than six years, the two directors worked closely together and prepared the animation. The film is co-financed by the studio Universal Pictures and Nintendo, and will be distributed worldwide by Universal Pictures.
To the famous plumber Mario is voiced by actor Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy is Princess Peach, Charlie Day is Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key is Toad, Seth Rogen is Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen is Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson is Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco is Spike.
