Superleggera – Mini's modern interpretation of British roadsters

At the prestigious event Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2014, Mini presented a study of a modern roadster under which the design team of the Mini brand and the Italian Touring Superleggera, which is responsible for the image of the disco volante model, are signed. The study predicts competition for the new generation Mazda MX-5, but despite everything, it is said to be far from serial production.

BMW's chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk said at the presentation of the unique model that it is a modern interpretation of cult stylish British roadsters from the middle of the last century, imbued with Italian style for design and German precision. The exterior suggests design moves of future mini models, while the interior is in the style of the aforementioned models, distinctly minimalistic and clean. Those responsible for the design "sacrificed" all unnecessary accessories, the absence of which should make it even easier for the driver to focus on driving, which should be immense pleasure.

The emphasis was also on lightness and efficiency, as the car was supposed to be extremely dynamic and economical at the same time. The Italian design style can be recognized in the proportions of the car and the characteristic accentuated shoulder line. For now, however, BMW is extremely tight-lipped about the motorization of this model, as well as about possible production plans, as they have neither confirmed nor denied the rumors about the latter.
