The road to the top for supermodels was not easy

But the rise to the top was by no means easy for supermodels. Tyro Banks, the first black model to grace a magazine cover Sports Illustrated, were rejected by many fashion agencies at the age of 17, when she was starting her fashion career. "I already had a black model and I don't want another one," one of the agents told her. One of the agencies even assessed her appearance as too "ethnic". Which did not stop her from becoming one of the most successful and recognizable supermodels and television personalities.
