The immortal tale of fragile beauty and devotion is one of the most well-known and watched ballet performances, attracting the biggest names in ballet since its inception. The world premiere was held many years ago by the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, but soon the original musical composition by Tchaikovsky and the script were slightly changed in the Russian Imperial Ballet in St. Petersburg. The revised version by conductor Riccardo Drigo and Tchaikovsky's brother Modest is most frequently performed in today's ballet companies. The Russian Imperial Ballet from St. Petersburg is coming to Slovenia with around forty world-famous ballet dancers who trained in the largest ballet schools in Russia. The story of Prince Siegfried, who runs away to the forest under pressure from his parents to choose a bride, was based on the motifs of folk tales, but the very facts, imbued with magic, are also transferred to the music and choreography. At night, the prince takes refuge by the lake, illuminated by the dim moonlight, where he sees Princess Odette, who, together with her friends, has been bewitched by the evil Rothbart and turned into swans. They only get the look of beautiful girls at night. Siegfried naturally falls in love with Odette's image in the moonlight. Their meeting is interrupted by the evil Rothbart himself, but Siegfried must not kill him yet, as he cannot save his chosen one from the spell. In the next scene, we meet the black swan, the character who inspired the novel of the same name by Mercedes Lackey and the Oscar-winning film starring Natalie Portman. It is about the magician Rothbart, who, for the celebration of the dance at which the prince's chosen one will be known, has put on the image of his daughter Odile, which is identical to the white swan, except that it is decorated with black. Siegfried realizes this fact too late, as he becomes engaged to the "black swan" in front of everyone at the dance. The ending that follows will definitely shock us, even if we are not sentimental people who cry at every romantic scene. The great ballet work won over many artists, who found in ballet an ideal world, a fairy-tale paradise in which everyday life dissolves, and hopes, on the contrary, are fulfilled.
