We were able to see a successful and high-profile ballet evening by Dutch choreographers performed by the SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana ballet ensemble a year and a half ago, when it impressed mainly because of the coordinated and equal dance ensemble. The performance at the time impressed even the most demanding critics with both parts of the play. In the first part of the ballet evening, the Ljubljana Ballet Ensemble performs the Rhapsody choreography to the music of Sergei Rachmaninoff, specially prepared for it by Ivo van Zwieten, a recognizable creator of the new generation of Dutch choreographers. The second part consists of the ballet Five Tangos by world-renowned choreographer Hans van Manen, which is the artist's most performed masterpiece. In 1977, he created a ballet for 14 dancers to the music of the Argentine tango master Astor Piazzolla, Five Tangos for Bandoneon and Accompaniment. It is a demonstration that tango is actually a dance form that can also be compared to the waltz and combined with the form of ballet. The choreographer did not try to interpret the compositions, but preferred to surrender to the surprising rhythm and emotions that this unusual music evokes.
