New on the market: Hyundai i20 – more space and content

Hyundai has been a "big" player" also on the European market for several years, and judging by the new i20, its path is still climbing. The new model, which used to be called getz and represented a much more mediocre and average model of the B-segment, is Namely, in terms of design, it is light years ahead of its predecessor, but at the same time it also offers concretely more content.

Design parallels with the model that has just retired are not to be found, as there are almost literally none. With the new one hyundai i20 everything was constructed and designed anew, form it is extremely modern and indicates the design direction of this brand in the future.

The front part draws much sharper features, the lights, together with the engine mask, are much more modern, the finishing touch LED daytime running lights and direction indicators in the side mirrors in the same technique. On the side, the brush strokes are just as sharp as on the front, and the big feature, or rather novelty, is the presentationa C-pillar, which is dressed in piano black, due to which it gives the impression of a floating roof, while at the same time the side of the vehicle looks much more elegant and gives a touch of a higher price class or segments.

The interior has been completely redesigned, and the sensations while driving are also better, although (or rather on top of that) the steering wheel has been amply reinforced for city driving, and maneuvering is child's play.

Because of the sharper lines, the car looks much more mature and hides its appearance well in all directions (with the exception of height) pulled a bit. The meter thus shows 40 mm more in length, 24 mm in width and a 45 mm increase in wheelbase. As mentioned, it is 16 mm less in height. Inside, that means an above-average spacious cabin that exceeds B-segment limits even when it comes to second-row legroom, and the same goes for trunk, which basically measures 326- (previously 295 l) but it can easily be increased up to 1,042 liters.

Even inside, the designers decided to rewrite the story entirely, and the result is modern center console, which is together with the upholstery of the seats available in four different color shades, the dash is a bit asymmetrical and facing the driver, and the materials and finish are at least a class better than before. A step forward was also made in the field of equipment and advanced technology, as it is now also possible to think of equipment for the i20 that was previously reserved for larger Hyundai models. These include: heated steering wheel, large electric sliding panoramic window with curtain, seven-inch central touch-sensitive screen, lane detection system LDWS, etc.

There are four basic equipment packages, and even the basic one offers all the essentials (air conditioning, audio device, AUX connections, USB, tire pressure sensor) and some other "sweets" in the form of a hill start assistance system - HAC and headlights with "follow me home". Higher up the equipment table, when we climb, LED daytime running lights, a reversing camera and the previously mentioned: heated steering wheel are also added to the equipment. large panoramic window and the LDWS system. If even that is not enough, you can also opt for leather and factory navigation.

It's new with engines five engines available (three petrol and two diesel) with a range power from 55 – 74 kW, and towards the end of the year, the offer will be enriched by the first petrol turbo engine of this brand, in the form of 1.0-liter T-GDI, which will develop 88 kW and 170 Nm. The gearbox is a five-speed manual only in the basic gasoline engine (1.25i), but in all others it has a higher gear ratio. For the 1.4-liter gasoline engine, for an additional payment of 1,430, the customer can also consider automatic transmission.

Prices start at 11,970 euros on petrol and 13,970 euros on the diesel side, but at the moment they charge you extra at the price list for all versions 1,200 discount plus a five-year warranty with no km limit.
